In case the name of the site doesn’t give it away, my name is Erica, and I love to take photos! Instead of going on and on about myself, I figured I would give a quick run down, and then answer some questions that may pop up.
I am a born and bred Pennsylvanian, originating from Erie but transplanting to Pittsburgh by way of Nashville, TN.
I have an awesome husband, Alan, and the two of us are “fur-parents” to five wonderful pets, not all of which have fur. [Meet the Family!]
I am a huge music fanatic, particularly all manners of rock, but occasionally an artist in another genre will sneak into my iTunes collection.
What is the deal with this site, are you selling your services?
Not exactly. I would just likeĀ to have a place to share my adventures in photography, whether that be a wedding, portraits, or a trip to the beach. The blog portion of the website will actually be split between photos and regular ol’ blog stuff.
So you’re not a professional photographer?
I don’t like to use that term, no. I have a full time Monday-Friday job, and while I would love to make photography into a full time career, it’s going to take a little more time, experience, and money to get that far.
Does that mean you won’t take bookings?
Not at all! I am always open to discussing dates for portraits and events!
Wait, what about weddings?
I do still do weddings, but with a few stipulations. I can’t do them too close together, having a full time job prevents me from doing more than one wedding a month, or else I can’t get the photos to the bride and groom in a reasonable amount of time. I also don’t feel comfortable doing very large weddings in elaborate halls or churches, I simply don’t have the equipment to handle those kind of dimly lit situations. If you are still interested, take a look at the calendar and if you’re date is available, let me know, we can talk!
Where did you learn photography?
I learned about 15% of my skill from a little college in Goodlettsville, TN called Nossi College of Art, another 10% were things I learned not to do by watching subpar photos being created in a retail-store studio in a mall. The rest has all come from experience out in the field.
What is your goal with photography?
Ideally I would like to get into live music photography. I love weddings and portraits and will probably never stop shooting them, but my dream is to capture all the emotion and energy that shows up on stage in small venue rock and roll shows. It used to be very easy to take a dSLR into these shows, and over the years that practice has become forbidden, and it’s heartbreaking. These shows hold so much passion, and all that anyone takes away from them are blown out and blurry cell phone photos. It’s a shame.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
